More than a drunk tank

Recovery Resources was born in 2016 from the vision of our Executive Director, Janelle Duhon.

Janelle’s vision was simple:

Create an organization that helped all people find freedom from the devastation of addiction.

Recovery Resources opened its doors and offered clients not only a safe place to detox in Aspen, but also the chance to write a vibrant new story for a fulfilling life in recovery. Much more than a “drunk tank”, what began as a tiny but dedicated detox staff team has grown over the past 5 years into a flourishing organization that now provides our clients and their families with a full suite of recovery services; from withdrawal facilities to innovative outpatient programming. We help people maintain long-term sobriety through our Holistic Coaching Program and Equine Assisted Learning Program. Recently, we’ve also added our Unsheltered Outreach Program, helping people find emergency and long-term housing.

Our misson is to - “Empower people to create a new story of transition, recovery and resilience.”

As a part of that mission  we seek to:

  • Reduce rates of relapse and recidivism for people and communities on Colorado’s Western Slope

  • Build resilience and supporting long-term recovery networks

  • Honor basic needs as a key to  healthy transitions

  • Put Resilience First and help people build their own unique pathway to a New Story

  • Change the stigma of addiction and homelessness into a culture of community support and resilience

  • Be a Hub of support for people in the transition towards resilience and recovery

Why Recovery Resources is not just a drunk tank

We believe in your autonomy and your ability to overcome life’s challenges by building resilience and tapping into your own inner strengths. We know it’s not easy, but we believe you can do it with the right support. We meet each person where they are and help them write a New Story for the life they want to live; developing clear pathways towards the next chapter of transition or recovery.

Whether you start as a withdrawal management client, in a DUI program or as a Holistic Coaching client we are here for you all along your journey. It was hard to see people come in and out of detox repeatedly, so we have developed a wide range of programs to support you wherever you are at in your sobriety journey. We want to provide you with the resources you need to stay sober in the long term.

Is Recovery Resources a rehab center?

We offer withdrawal management services followed by outpatient services. So the short answer is, ‘No, Recovery Resources is not a rehab center.’ However, if you are looking for an in-patient addiction treatment center, we can connect you to facilities that provide in-patient treatment. Better yet, if you need financial support we can refer you to resources that may be able to help you cover the costs of in-patient addiction treatment. We seek to be a Hub of support for people in the transition towards resilience and recovery so please reach out to us at 970-379-0955 to take the first step towards sobriety and recovery.

Changing the stigma of addiction

One of our goals is to change the stigma of addiction into a culture of community support and resilience. To that end, you will see some changes in the way we describe our services. Firstly, our ‘Detox Centers’ are becoming ‘Withdrawal Management Facilities’. Why are we making this change? We feel that ‘withdrawal management’ more accurately aligns with our goal to reduce rates of relapse and recidivism on Colorado’s Western Slope. Rather than a revolving door that people come in and out of, we want our withdrawal management facilities to be the first stop people make on the journey of long-term sobriety. In addition, the wording ‘withdrawal management facility’ offers clients more dignity than ‘detox center’. The way we talk about our services helps reduce the stigma associated with addiction in our community and beyond.

We couldn’t be prouder of the hard work we’ve done to grow and respond to the needs of our community, and we’re committed to keeping up that hard work. Our clients remain the heart of this organization, and our vision will always be rooted in empowering each person to find success on their own unique journey of recovery.

Let us know how we can support you or your loved ones on the journey of recovery!
