Family Herd Program
OVERVIEW
Our Family Herd Program is a unique Equine Assisted Learning experience created to help families reconnect, strengthen communication and begin healing together.
This 5-week program includes 5 sessions each offering time in the arena to explore one another’s needs through problem-solving activities, followed by family debriefs and personal journaling exercises to foster deeper reflection and connection.
HOW IT WORKS
We offer a series of 5 workshops designed to help families better understand and work with one another. Each sessions will focus on skills that will help you better communicate, work together and support one another, while building trust and healing strained relationships. No prior experience with horses is necessary.
This program is part of our larger Family Engagement Program, which offers counseling sessions for our clients’ family members to provide them with education, support and vital tools for working with a loved one who is struggling with substance misuse.

WHY HORSES
By their intuitive nature and innate sensitivity, horses respond to what the participants are feeling, and participants need to adjust their feelings and behaviors to work successfully with the horses and one another.
A horse’s feedback is honest and instant, giving the participant immediate feedback.
Horses help instill empathy and kindness in participants, while modeling assertiveness.
Hands-on learning has been shown to be more effective than classroom knowledge for reducing instances of bullying and increasing participant self-esteem.
