HorseSense Program
OVERVIEW
Building Connection, Confidence & Skills—From the Ground Up
HorseSense is a foundational program designed to introduce children (ages 4+), teens, and adults to the world of horses through both unmounted and mounted activities. We believe that trust, respect, and communication begin on the ground—long before anyone gets in the saddle.
This program emphasizes horsemanship first: participants learn how to care for, lead, and connect with their horse in a calm, respectful, and safe environment. Through guided groundwork, individuals develop a deeper understanding of how horses think, communicate, and respond—
building a relationship rooted in mutual trust.
Once a solid foundation is built on the ground, participants gradually transition into beginner riding sessions at their own pace. These mounted sessions focus on balance, body awareness, and continuing the respectful relationship they’ve developed with their horse.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS LEARN:
Basic safety practices for working around horses
Grooming, leading, and safe horse handling skills
Understanding equine body language and communication
Basics of horse health and care (nutrition, signs of illness, hoof care, etc.)
Simple identification and proper care of tack (saddles, bridles, grooming tools)
How to describe and measure horses using standard terminology
Refining groundwork techniques and preparing for mounted work
Foundational riding skills, once groundwork is established
Responsibility, empathy, and self-awareness through hands-on learning
HorseSense is ideal for anyone—child or adult—who wants to build a strong foundation in horsemanship, develop confidence, or learn to ride in a calm, supportive environment.
No prior horse experience is needed—just a willingness to learn, grow, and connect.
We offer all of our HorseSense lessons in our arena in Silt, CO.
