OVERVIEW

If you have received a DUI and have been sentenced, or have yet to receive your sentence, our DUI Program is for you!  If you need to complete DUI classes for the DMV we can also help with that.

We currently offer classes online via Zoom. Links to attend each group will be emailed to each participant upon enrollment.  

Recovery Resources is licensed by the State of Colorado to offer DUI Education and DUI Therapy. Recovery Resources utilizes the state-approved Change Companies curriculum. 

Step-by-Step Process

Your first step to begin DUI classes is to complete your intake application online using our HIPAA-compliant intake system. Then schedule an intake appointment with our DUI Coordinator. Then you will pay the DUI Program intake fee. After your assessment, you’ll be placed with one of our weekly DUI Education or Therapy groups to begin your classes.

Appointment cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before your appointment or you will be charged a fee.

Timeline for DUI

  1. Complete your program enrollment and assessment with our DUI Intake Coordinator

  2. If sentenced, submit your DUI sentencing order and your DUI treatment track enrollment form to the DUI Intake Coordinator (this form is received following your Alcohol Evaluation).

  3. Make sure all program forms have been signed electronically via your secure online client portal.

  4. Submit your Affidavit of Enrollment form to the DMV, if required for license reinstatement (this form is provided by the DUI Intake Coordinator after your DUI enrollment is complete).

  5. Begin DUI Education group sessions and pay for your classes (plans available).

  6. Complete your DUI Education requirement (generally 12 weeks).

  7. Meet with the DUI Intake Coordinator to transfer into DUI Therapy classes (if required).

  8. Begin DUI Therapy group sessions and pay for your classes (plans available).

  9. Complete your DUI Therapy requirement (21-43 weeks, depending on your assigned DUI treatment track).

  10. Meet with the DUI Intake Coordinator to sign your DUI Program discharge paperwork.

  11. Submit your final DRS report to the DMV and your Probation Officer (this form is provided by the DUI Intake Coordinator once your discharge is complete).

FAQs

  • Level I Education consists of 12 hours of alcohol and drug education over a minimum of 3 sessions, unless an alcohol evaluator determines more hours are required. Typically conducted in a group or class, Level I Education is only appropriate for someone who has had one impaired driving offense, and a low BAC. (.05 to .079)

  • Level II Education consists of 24 hours of DUI education over a 12 week period. Education classes are conducted on an outpatient basis in a group setting with weekly two-hour sessions. Over the 12 week period, clients attend one two-hour class per week. Class size is limited to no more than 12 regularly attending participants. Level II Education can be recommended by itself or may be followed by Level II Therapy.

  • When Level II Therapy is required, it typically follows Level II Education. Clients will receive a specific Level II Therapy track assignment from their alcohol evaluator. Track assignments range in length from 6 to 11 months or more depending on assessed clinical severity indicators, previous DUI/DWAI offenses and BAC at time of arrest. As with Level II Education, Level II Therapy is conducted on an outpatient basis in weekly two-hour sessions.

    Colorado has 4 tracks for Level II Therapy that consist of the following minimum hours & weeks:

    • Track A 42 hours over 21 weeks

    • Track B 52 hours over 26 weeks

    • Track C 68 hours over 34 weeks

    • Track D 86 hours over 43 weeks

    Track recommendations for hours and levels of care are made by trained evaluators in the probation department, or in the absence of an evaluation, the DUI licensed treatment agency.

    1. To set an appointment or follow your license reinstatement progress, go to https://mydmv.colorado.gov. This is where you can upload documents and get clearance from the DMV to so you can get back your license.

    2. Click on the go to “Driver/ID Services” the top center link

    3. Find “View/upload reinstatement documents” in the bottom left corner or "set appointment" in the bottom center section

    4. Make sure interlock device is professionally installed in your vehicle (all for plenty of time) and that you have an appointment to renew.

    5. Upload the documents attached, get clearance and get your new license.

    6. Call the DMV at (303) 205-5613, to confirm your clearance is good to go 48 hours after you send in documentation and before your appointment.

    Bonus Tips: Filling out the documents correctly, obtaining insurance, getting a legal notarization, and having the interlock device professionally installed will take some time. Please follow these detailed steps:

    1. Set a drivers license renewal appointment with the DMV. Do this a month before you plan to get your license as it is subject to availability. Do not set a reinstatement appointment.

    2. Have an interlock device installed in your car. You will need to schedule an appointment with a local interlock provider. You should do this as soon as possible as the appointment will depend on the auto shop's availability.

    3. Complete the Affidavit of Restricted License Ignition Interlock Agreement. Upload this affidavit to the DMV.

    4. Obtain SR-22 insurance from your insurance company and upload a copy to the DMV.

    5. Start your level 2 Alcohol and Drug Education Classes. You can do this through Recovery Resources. Begin by creating an account.

    6. Fill out the Affidavit of Enrollment for level 2 Alcohol and drug education classes and have it properly signed . Upload a copy to the DMV. After submitting all documents, the DMV will mail you a clearance letter. You can also call the DMV to confirm your clearance at (303) 205-5613.

    7. Go to the DMV appointment and get your license back.
